Current Museum News:
From a humble start twenty two years ago as a tiny, one-room storehouse, the Collier County Museum has evolved and grown today into a respected three-facility community institution with a professionally trained staff of eight and a full offering of educational and cultural activities for all ages and interests. During this past two years, the Museum welcomed nearly110,000 visitors and hosted a number of highly successful exhibitions and events ranging from Southwest Florida butterflies and swamp buggies, to native gardening, space exploration, local archaeology,  specially themed activities to commemorate the George Washington Bicentennial, and a major exhibit to salute the Veterans of W.W.II. A newly created international web site, initiated through the Friends of the Museum, also registered over 285,000 hits in its first year on line and has become a reliable resource for students and educators.

Volunteers assist with essential work in cataloging and computerizing the Museum’s extensive collections, research and fundraising, and serve as our official guides with guests and group tours at the Museum of the Everglades and at the annual Old Florida Festival. Collectively this special group of individuals contributed over 8,932 hours of service to the Museum this past year.

Working closely with local organizations, corporate sponsors and Friends of the Museum groups in Naples, Everglades City and Immokalee, the Museum continues to seek out and explore new opportunities to preserve and promote the history and cultural traditions of Collier County, and to pass on this rich heritage to future generations of citizens.

From finding new ways to build and hold audiences, to streamlining and improving budgeting, planning and strategy, the Collier County Museum’s staff and volunteers are personally committed to meeting the challenges that lay ahead in the new millennium.
