Dear Educator:
Welcome to the Collier County Museum! We are very happy that you are
considering a trip to the Collier County Museum in this year's curriculum.
The following pages are designed to help you and your students better
prepare for your visit.
For many of your students, this will be their first visit to a History
Museum. We encourage you to review the enclosed material and tour the
museum prior to your scheduled class visit. Museum visits are more
meaningful and more enjoyable for the well-prepared class.
The education programs offered by the Collier County Museum are outlined
in this booklet. However, you are not limited to these programs.
Activities can be developed to meet your specific curriculum needs. I
would be happy to meet with you to discuss any such needs,
Once you have selected a program, pre and post visit materials will be
sent to you with a confirmation sheet so that you and your students will
know the schedule of activities on the day of your visit.
Thanks again for choosing the Collier County Museum. We're looking forward
to your visit. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact
me at 941-774-8476.
Sincerely,
David Southall Curator of Education

Scheduling
Tips
- For optimum
interaction between the museum educator and students, your group size
should be limited to one class (30-35 students). Special arrangements
for larger groups should be discussed with the Curator of Education in
advance by calling, 941-774-8476
- All education programs must be scheduled through the Curator of
Education E-mail:
davidsouthall@colliergov.net.
We recommend that you have two possible dates in mind for your
visit, should your first choice not be available. (The months of
March, April, and May fill up quickly, so schedule early if you are
planning a spring field trip).
- If it becomes necessary for you to cancel or arrive late, please
contact the museum as soon as possible.
- All programs are offered free of charge.
- Educational programs are offered to school groups Monday - Friday
beginning at 9:30 a.m.
- The museum is handicapped accessible.
- Picnic facilities are available on the museum grounds. There are
no soda or snack machines on site. Please remember that mosquitoes
can sometimes be bothersome when eating outdoors, so plan
accordingly.
Your Arrival
- Please have the bus driver unload and load the students in the
circular driveway located at the main museum entrance. The bus can
remain parked there for the duration of your visit.
- School groups will enter the museum through the main entrance. The
Curator of Education will meet your students at the door.
- If you are using the picnic facilities, students should bring there
lunches, etc. into the museum lecture hall and place them on the table
reserved for lunches. Garbage bags will be provided.

available for all topics.
- Please let your students know that during the program, the museum
curator is the teacher.
- Encourage your students to ask questions and participate.
DONT'S
- Please do not eat, drink, or chew gum in exhibit areas.
- No flash photography is permitted in the museum galleries.
- Please do not run.
- Please stay on the brick pathways while touring the museum
grounds, and don't touch unfamiliar plants or animals.
OUTREACH PROGRAMS
Educational programs at the Collier County Museum are also available
as outreach programs, where the Curator of Education visits the
classroom. All programs can be adapted for use in a classroom setting.
Slides and artifacts are used to involve students in a hands-on
learning experience. However, the outreach programs are offered on a
limited basis and do not replace the more comprehensive programs
available at the museum. The classroom will need to provide a table
for a slide projector and artifacts. To schedule an outreach program,
please contact the Curator of Education, 941-774-8476 or mailto:davidsouthall@colliergov.net.
