Education is central to the mission of the
Collier County Museum.
The Friends of the Collier County Museum, a
not-for-profit organization committed to enhancing
the museum’s educational programs, launched the
Museum Express in 1998.
What is the Museum Express?
This special program underwrites
transportation cost to the Collier County Museum
for those Collier County schools, public or
private, with little or no funding available for
an educational fieldtrip to the museum.
Where does the Museum Express get funding?
Funding is made possible through public or
private donations and through the museum’s
annual fundraiser,
Old Florida Festival.
Who
administers the Museum Express Program? David
Southall, Curator of Education for the
Collier County Museum and Mike Ryan, Treasurer of
the Friends of the Collier County Museum
administer the Museum Express.
How successful has the Museum Express
Program been?
Ten thousand school children, primarily 2nd
and 4th graders, have climbed aboard
the Museum Express since l998.
The program is growing and we are able to
reach other grade levels and exceptional children.
The Museum Express has made it possible for
students with learning disabilities, students who
are learning English, and physically handicapped
students to visit the museum for a visual/
multi-disciplinary learning experience.
If you help fund it, they all can come.
For a donation of $150.00, 60 students can
come to the museum for one of eleven educational
programs. For
many of these students this is not only their
first visit to a cultural institution, it will be
their only visit.

Express or would like to sit in on one of the
